Scissors, Paper, Rock was invited to play music for Cody and Sam’s wedding in Nowra. We now know that if Cody and Sam’s love was measured in raindrops, then the cup would be full. Actually, the bucket would be full.

As the bridal party picked up their bouquets and straightened their jackets raindrops hinted. As the bridesmaids made their first tentative steps down an outdoor aisle it was raining lightly. Unfortunately before the I dos could be delivered, the rain was torrential, and there was neither I dry shirt or eye among the guests.

“So they got wet” I hear you say. Had they stayed outside any longer, the girls’ makeup would have run… away… completely. Gone! The guys looked as though they’d forgotten to take off their suits before taking showers, and then someone had thrown a bucket of water on them.

Part way through the ceremony, they made the call – we need to move to higher (drier) ground. With admirable calm Cody and Sam led their guests inside, composed themselves and continued the wedding ceremony under cover.

We played a couple of acoustic sets over dinner once things had settled, and a few of the younger guests requested a song from the gremlins movie. The best we could offer was a wiggles track, which turned out to be the surprise hit of the night with the 18+ guests rocking it harder than any of the toddlers.

John worked some magic singing and playing his ukelele for the first dance, and then we shifted gears as the dance floor filled up. We found crowd pleasers playing a real mix of country, pop-punk and rock, alongside a few old favourites.

As far as wedding venues in Wollongong and the Illawarra go, being the wedding band at Terara Gardens (Nowra) was pretty awesome. There was a couple of function areas, beautiful grounds and a lovely view down the river.

During the evening, guests were quick to suggest that having your wedding ceremony rained out was good luck. Under the same belief I suppose so being hit with a bat. We all had a ripper night despite the weather, and big congratulations to Cody and Sam – we think you’re both awesome!

Scissors Paper Rock are a Wollongong band available for functions and weddings.
