Yes – we don’t understand when or why it happened, but Horses by Daryl Braithwaite got popular again. If I’d had a shirt that said “no, we don’t play horses” I’d have worn it. Of course it would have been a lie.
By halfway through the night, swelling demand for the song saw us attempt a few verses and choruses unrehearsed with the help of ultimate guitar and a mobile phone. We could have been tone deaf playing a zuzaphone and some garbage bin lids for all they cared, when we hit the soaring pop chorus “That’s the way it’s gonna be little darling”, the only thing that mattered was how loud you could sing it into your fake microphone, and how well you rode your fake horse.
We don’t know Jed, but he seems like a bit of a legend, and I’d bet the parts of the nights he remembers will be remembered fondly. There’s a few things he does especially well – own the dancefloor with his blow up guitar, speak, and yell increasingly toneless backing vocals. Just kidding mate, you mostly sounded good. We certainly enjoyed the gig, our pop mega mix went down a treat, and we’re stoked we were able to help you celebrate your 21st. “… and if you fall I’ll pick you up, pick you uuuuup”.
